The Brit Cup
Worksop
2 July 2011
Brit Cup 2011 saw four fresh young Mosquitoes get into the thick of the action down at Worksop.
All newcomers to Aussie Rules and the Mosquitoes in 2011, James Partridge, James Connor, Nick
Ingram and Ric Clarke pulled on their boots for the Northern Warriors to compete against the cream
of British footballers in AFL Britain’s biggest and most exciting tournament of the season. Eight teams
competed in total, in addition to the Warriors there were the West London Wildcats, West Midland
Wolves, North East All Stars, WARFL Red Devils, Southern Saxons, Wimbledon Hawks and the
Nottingham Scorpions.
Our boys quickly got into the thick of the action, with everyone getting plenty of game time.
Unfortunately Jesse copped a heavy tackle in the first match against the Wildcats and was concussed
as a result, preventing any further on-field involvement. He had some awesome grass burns on
his face to show off to the fans at home though, so all was not lost! Ric worked hard all day in the
forward pocket, and Connor and Nick ran all over the ground, picking up valuable possessions and
keeping the ball moving forward.
Ric summed up the day: “the sun shone all day and we really did have a cracking day out... loads of
great game time and experience for the new boys, and a chance to mingle with the other northern
chaps who... totally accepted us into the team and really valued our efforts, giving everyone a fair
crack despite obvious inexperience”.
It was a fantastic opportunity for these new guys to get more match experience under their belt. At
home they’re all continuing to perform and improve as each week passes, becoming key members of
this developing Mozzies team. Congratulations to all of you, and we look forward to getting involved
again in Brit Cup 2012!
